Foundation Projects

The Olympia Fields Country Club Historic Landmark Foundation (the Foundation) has funded  quite a number of projects since its inception, some of which are ongoing. The projects we have been able to contribute to, or fund outright, have included everything from historic restorations to all-important building maintenance. Each one has its own importance in satisfy the mission of the Foundation.

Restoring The Normandy Room

In 2018 the HLF funded the first step toward restoring the Normandy Room to its original glory, bringing back the towering windows and the south wall. With the support of HLF contributors, we plan to complete the Normandy Room restoration in two phases:

PHASE I

Restoration of the Normandy Room’s west wall and outdoor Veranda, providing a covered outdoor space that connects to the Lobby and expanded 1915 Room Patio. The HVAC systems serving the room will be re-designed and replaced.

PHASE II
Picture
Complete restoration of the Normandy Room Interior, including the restoration of the original towering windows and doors on the east and west walls and the general repair of millwork and plastering throughout the room.


FUTURE FOUNDATION WORK
Restoration of the lobby and entry to the Normandy Room, the east side of the Clubhouse interior, and replacement of second floor hotel room windows.

Our Nationally Recognized Artchitect,
Thomas "Gunny" Harboe, FAIA, Fellow US/ICOMOS

A famed preservationist and an internationally recognized architect dedicated to the conservation of the world's cultural heritage with a focus on historic preservation and sustainable design. Gunny will advise on the next Phases of renovations by preserving the Veranda (Phase I) and turning what is now an under-utilized storage area into what was and will, once again, be a member experience opportunity, while also unveiling even more natural light and providing direct access into the magnificent Normandy Room. (Phase II)
